Water

About 71 percent of the earth is covered in water, but it also exists in the air, in the soil, and even inside of us. Humans are made up of about 50-60% water, and to keep our bodies healthy, it is essential that we intake the appropriate amounts of water. Without water, we become dehydrated—dehydration can lead to some severe health problems; however, it can also negatively impact your mood, your work performance, even your vision. Jesus tells the woman at the well “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life” (John 4:13-14). We take for granted our access to water in this country. When we are thirsty, we can drink. Imagine you are this woman, travelling a great distance to pull water from this well. Imagine how often she thirsted for physical water. Jesus tells her that His water never runs out, it is always available. Jesus also says “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6). When our head hurts or we are tired, the answer sometimes is that we are dehydrated. We need water. When our soul is suffering, when life seems pointless or impossible—it may be that we are not thirsting after the spiritual water like we should and our soul is dehydrated.

Water is life. It is both in us and around us. Jesus says “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’"(John 7:37-38) What does it look like when rivers of living water are flowing out of us? Are we partaking of the water and not sharing? No, when we truly believe in Christ our savior, we want to share it. Like a river is hard to stop, so also is it hard to stop our excitement to speak about the glory, the honor, and the amazing news that Jesus is. That woman that Jesus spoke to at the well could not contain her joy. She went immediately into the city and began testifying about what had happened.

If we are hydrated on the water that Jesus offers, we will share it with everyone, and maybe someone will want that water too. Let us say to them “The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost” (Revelation 22:17). Invite others to come, the thirsty will accept and he will find eternal life by being born again of the water through Christ. “Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).
